Program to Provide Relief in Storm Response – Alexandria Echo Press

ALEXANDRIA — Members of the Greater Alexandria Area Association of Realtors and Minnesota Realtors, with help from the Realtors Relief Foundation, announced a program to provide assistance in response to the tornado and storms that led to widespread property damage in the Douglas County Area on May 12 and 30.

On May 12, two major storms hit the Douglas County Area, damaging more than 56 homes and destroying two. A few weeks later, on May 30, another series of severe storms damaged more than 100 homes and destroyed at least 29.

The Greater Alexandria Area Association and Minnesota Realtors have successfully applied to the Realtors Relief Foundation to provide financial assistance to those affected by these natural disasters.

In response to the unforeseen burdens these residents face, the Realtors Relief Foundation has made $100,000 available to individuals and families directly affected by the storms and tornadoes that are in the emergency zone, as stated by Douglas County.

Financial aid will be provided to cover one month’s rent or mortgage payment for qualified applicants in the amount of up to $1,200 per household until the available funds are fully allocated.

The president of the Greater Alexandria Area Association of Realtors, Mike Munson, expressed his condolences to those involuntarily facing enormous challenges as a result of these devastating weather events.

“I know I am not alone in extending our heartfelt support to those affected by these tragedies,” he said in a press release. “The Realtors Relief Foundation is an important aspect of the real estate agency’s mission to support the communities we live and work in. We hope these efforts, combined with those of other humanitarian groups, will help speed up the recovery of the people of Douglas County.”

Eligible applicants are those directly affected by the Douglas County storms on May 12 or 30 and who have primary residence in the county. GAAAR will participate in the Douglas County Storm Recovery Center event on Thursday, July 7 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Douglas County Administration Building at 821 Cedar St.
