HTC shaves $100 off its flagship PC VR headset, for a limited time – Road to VR

HTC is putting its flagship PC VR headset Vive Pro 2 on sale for a limited time, bringing the full kit to $1,299 and the headset to $749.

The US-Canada-only deal is available today and will run until July 2.

Launched mid 2021, the Vive Pro 2 Full Kit regularly selling for $1,399. It includes everything you need to jump into high-quality VR, including the Vive Pro 2 headset, two SteamVR 2.0 base stations, two wall controllers, and all the cables and AC wallwarts you need to run it all.

The Vive Pro 2 headset is only discounted by $50, as it is regularly priced at $800. This deal should only appeal to users who already own SteamVR base stations (1.0 or 2.0) and controllers, as you’ll need those things to play VR games on play room scale. Oh, and an adequate computer too. Use this tool to see if your rig is VR ready

We didn’t hate Vive Pro 2: in our deep dive review we noted that the headset offered good performance, although it probably didn’t justify a class-leading price and “Pro” branding compared to others. As Road to VRs Ben Lang said: Vive Pro 2 “has no field of view as big or bigger than Index, nor as big or brighter than Reverb G2.”

What it does offer are high-resolution displays with no visible screen door effect, or other artifacts like mura and chromatic aberration. It features good quality built-in headphones and an ergonomic strap that is almost identical to the Vive Pro, so good enough for most for long VR sessions.

Although we still think that the best overall PC VR headset is Indexwe recommend that you read our review in its entirety to decide for yourself.

Some oft-overlooked icing on the cake: Both purchases come with a two-month free trial of Viveport Infinity, which lets you download a ton of great PC VR games for a monthly subscription. You can’t keep the games when the subscription period ends, but you can buy a lot of new and classic titles during that time that you would otherwise have to buy.
