What are people saying?

“As we aim to become America’s best connectivity provider, we are doubling the use of fiber in our broadband infrastructure,” said Jeff McElfresh, CEO of AT&T Communications† “With true multi-gig speeds and symmetric upload and download, AT&T Fiber will redefine the way we experience the Internet and drive innovation from education to work to entertainment.”

“The pandemic has significantly changed the way consumers and businesses use the Internet and what is required of a broadband provider,” said Roger Entner, founder and principal analyst of Recon Analytics. “Faster is better, but reliability is best. And AT&T has shown that it has both with AT&T Fiber.”

What is multi-gig and why is it useful?

According to a recent study commissioned by AT&T for Recon Analytics, 6 out of 10 consumers bought a newly connected device in the past year3 The average consumer has 13 connected devices in their home and that number is expected to multiply. In addition, half of all employees now have the ability to: long-term remote work – meaning hours of video conferencing.3 Consumers and small businesses are consuming more data than ever, and we expect data usage to continue to grow from megabytes to terabytes.

Multi-gig speeds are ready for this growing demand and will give your households and small businesses more bandwidth to use a large number of connected devices simultaneously. As with highways with multiple high-speed lanes, multi-gig speeds open those lanes for various connected devices to run at their fastest possible speeds.

The ACP offers eligible households a benefit of up to $30 per month and up to $75 on qualifying tribal lands to lower the cost of broadband service, including our new multi-gig speed tiers, which will be eligible for the benefit in the coming weeks .

And we are addressing the digital divide in education through our AT&T Connected Learning initiative, which focuses on investing in connectivity, technology, digital literacy and educational solutions to help today’s students succeed inside and outside the classroom. This includes the opening of more than 20 AT&T Connected Learning Centers across the country, all equipped with free access to high-speed AT&T Fiber Internet and Wi-Fi.

Why fiberglass? There is a big difference in the architectural nature of fiber optic compared to cable. Cable is designed to deliver TV content to households, while fiber is specifically designed to provide high speed internet. Fiber allows high-capacity tasks such as uploading large documents during video calls and gaming seamlessly, even during heavy use.

We also keep businesses connected with more than 675,000 corporate buildings in the US lit with fiber from AT&T, Enabling high-speed fiber connections to more than 2.75 million corporate customer locations in the US† Nationally, more than 9.5 million corporate customer locations are located within 300 meters of our fiber optic.7
