Macronix OctaBus MX25UW51245G NOR Flash Offers Boot Memory to Renesas R-CAR S4 SoC Based VC4 Vehicle Computer Reference Designs

TAIPEI, Taiwan – July 06, 2022 — Macronix International Co., Ltd.

market for non-volatile memory (NVM), today announced that its MX25UW51245G Serial NOR Flash memory has been selected by Renesas Electronics Corporation for reference designs based on the Vehicle Computer Generation 4 (VC4) chipset. The powerful MX25UW51245G will provide the VC4 platform, based on the Renesas R-Car S4 system on a chip (SoC), with critical memory that enables fast boot times in automotive computer designs.

Fast, reliable flash memory is essential for fast VC4-based booting
systems, enabling them to meet real-time computing requirements.
Capable of a read speed of up to 400MB/s and low random latency, the MX25UW51245G provides VC4 reference boards with the flash
storage space required to start up the R-Car S4 SoC.

with its OctaBus™ interface, the MX25UW51245G has 512Mb
density, an Automotive Grade 1 temperature range from -40 0C to +125 0C
and provides functional safety up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level
D (ASIL D). Memory quality and performance have been improved
substantially due to Macronix’s highly efficient technology and know-how.

The VC4 system is based on a complete Renesas chipset, the centerpiece
of which the R-Car S4 with 8x Cortex®A55 cores with 8MB of
SRAM, advanced cybersecurity and a rich selection of automotive
interfaces. The VC4 provides functional safety up to ASIL D along with:
the ability to have a wide range of connectivity within the
vehicle giving developers a rich environment for fast
prototypes. It provides a Gigabit Ethernet switch with three ports and a
integrated RH850 MCU functionality, which
customer’s bill of materials.
