Born in 1971 in Hiroshima, artist Daitaro Nishihara started out as a manga-ka in Monthly Shonen Jump magazine. Starting in 2001, several of his series were prepublished in Korokoro Comic (Shôgakukan) magazine, most notably Pokémon 6 – Jirachi: The Genius of Wishes.
Born 1963 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Soviet Union, lightning consultant Garry Kasparov became chess champion of the USSR under 18 at the age of 12. Then, at the age of 17, he won the title of World Under-20 Chess Champion. In 1985, at the age of 22, he achieved international fame as the youngest World Chess Champion in history. He defended his title five times, including a series of legendary matches against his great rival Anatoly Karpovi† Kasparov broke Bobby Fischer’s record in 1990 and his own remained unbeaten until 2013. His famous matches against IBM’s Deep Blue supercomputer in 1996-97 played a key role in the integration of artificial intelligence into the chess world.
