Construction underway for Fast Fiber Internet in Morton

The expansion connects 400 additional residential and business customers

TEC, a leading provider of fiber internet to rural communities in the South East, has pioneered construction that will expand broadband access to the Morton community. Once completed, the project will provide high-speed Internet, telephone, and security options to this unserved and underserved area of Scott County.

“This is great news for our area and I am so thankful for TEC,” said District 75 Rep. Tom Miles. “Access to high-quality broadband is one of the biggest economic and quality of life problems for any community. To grow our community and county, we must continue to work at all levels of government to ensure we are connected across our county. Thanks to TEC’s continued partnership, investment and commitment to helping our county connect and invest in rural Mississippi.”

TEC’s goal is to bridge the digital divide by providing a reliable, high-speed internet option that positively impacts the communities it serves. With TEC’s Fast Fiber Internet, residents can access work-from-home opportunities, digital learning, physician appointments via telemedicine, and online video streaming services.

“Increased broadband access helps drive growth in rural areas by providing people with reliable connections to businesses, schools and healthcare,” said Joey Garner, TEC Executive Vice President. “High speed internet access is vital to take advantage of online services that are essential in today’s world. TEC is committed to providing this access to the communities we serve.”

The current project will develop more than 46 miles of fiber infrastructure and connect 400 additional residential and business customers to Fast Fiber Internet, providing Gigabit speeds, home security and telephone services to Morton. Gig internet connections provide the best online experience for streamers, gamers, social media users and multi-user families at home. TEC provides economic stability to its local service areas and employs 200 people in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana. To date, TEC has invested in and currently maintains approximately 2,000 miles of fiber in its nationwide markets. TEC has been at the forefront of providing telecommunications services to rural America for nearly a century and was the first to bring Internet options to many rural markets more than 20 years ago.
