Illinois American Water encourages customers in need of assistance to take advantage of the federal low-income assistance program

Qualifying customers can receive up to $1,500 towards their water/wastewater bill.

BELLEVILLE, Illinois, July 06, 2022BUSINESS WIRE)–Illinois American Water encourages eligible customers who need financial assistance with their water and/or wastewater bills to take advantage of the federal LIHWAP utility. LIHWAP is a federally funded bill-paying program to help low-income families pay their water and/or wastewater bills. Eligible residential customers can receive up to $1,500 towards their water and/or wastewater bill.

The program is available until August 31, 2023 and is open to residential customers only. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) administers the program, and assistance is provided by local Community Action Agencies (CAA) across the state.

“We understand that water bills may be one of the lowest household bills, but it can also be easy for customers to fall behind if household costs continue to rise,” said Beth Matthews, vice president of Illinois American Water. “These federal funds can further help our customers keep the service flowing.”

The federally funded LIHWAP program helps residential customers who are locked out, facing closure or have past due balances. More information about LIHWAP can be found here.

In addition to the LIHWAP program, Illinois American Water residential customers can receive assistance through the H2O Help to others program, installment plans and budget billing. Customers can find more information on the company’s website at: under Customer Service & Billing and Customer Support Program. Illinois American Water’s financial aid programs are available to everyone regardless of income.
